It's just 2 weeks today (14 more sleeps!), when the lucky ones among us will be busy unwrapping presents, enjoying a Christmas feast and hopefully having a great time with family and friends.
But as you know, sadly, not everyone will be in that position. My wife and I were lucky enough to go to the theatre in London on Tuesday evening to see a performance of Oscar Wilde's " The Importance Of Being Ernest". It was great fun, and a good time was had by all. But at the end, one of the stars of the show, Hugh Dennis (of Outnumbered, Mock The Week, Not Going Out etc fame), gave a heartfelt request to the utterly captivated audience to give a donation of any size to the 'St Martin In The Fields' charity (of which he's been an active ambassador for the last 10 years).
The charity supports people from all walks of life who experience 'homelessness', and so often in sudden circumstances caused by no fault of their own. It can happen to any one of us at any time. Hugh Dennis' plea had an amazing effect on us all, and as a result people were only too willing to dig deep into their pockets to give what they could afford to help, especially at this time of year.
