Welcome to May - (pinch, punch etc etc) and to this WONDERFUL Spring weather! I wasn't expecting to say that a few weeks ago when I was walking the fields with my dog and my wellies constantly caked in something pretty nasty!
And if you haven't heard (??), it's a bank holiday weekend coming up (yay!), followed by 4 days of VE DAY CELEBRATIONS next week, when we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe.
The Leicestershire County Council elections are taking place today (May 1st). I'm sure you will have had information through your door about your choice of candidates to vote for and polling stations should you wish to vote, but if you want more information, click on the link above.
There are plenty of opportunities in the region to celebrate the anniversary of VE Day. You can see a Programme of (organised) Events by
CLICKING HERE, but of course you may be planning your own parties. If you go along to THE FOX INN at WILBARSTON on Thursday 8th May, you can 'buy a cuppa' and get a FREE CREAM TEA from 12pm!
There's also a special 'Spirit of the 40s' day planned at OAT HILL MEWS CARE HOME on the Leicester Rd, Market Harborough next Thursday 8th from 2pm - 4pm, and you're all invited. Whatever you're doing, I hope you'll have a great time, just like they did on 8th May 1945.
Coming up this bank holiday weekend, you've got THE FARMERS MARKET on The Square in Harborough today (Thurs). And then, starting on Saturday through Sunday, HARBOROUGH MARKET will be hosting a '1940s WEEKEND'. You'll see vintage stalls and vintage vehicles; DJs, singers and plenty of surprises - so come along and join in the fun if you can.
Of course the local shops and businesses will be celebrating too, so what better way than to enjoy the sunshine and atmosphere of being in town over the coming days.
Duncan (aka Mr Fizz) and team will be open for FREE WINE TASTING this Saturday afternoon from 12noon -3pm, when this week they'll be showcasing a duet of stunning South African Wines for you to try.
