We spent last Sunday evening at Worthing Leisure Centre for the Worthing Thunder Basketball Clubs first home game of the season. The buzz was fantastic as the fans started to pack out the stands. Enjoyable for all ages and with our offer of £1 entry for children (click here for your voucher) you definately shouldn't miss their second home game of the season on Saturday when they entertain the Plymouth Raiders. For the new season, Saturday matches will tip off at the slightly later time of 7.30pm.
After a difficult summer, the club has started off with three defeats but has been competitive in all the matches and are optimistic of gaining the first victory of the season ahead of Saturday's game against the team from the South West in what should be another close game at the Worthing Leisure Centre as the BBL Trophy campaign is concluded. At the game on Saturday long time Worthing basketball fan Chris Guy will be having a bucket collection for the Martlets Hospice ahead of his trip to climb Mount Kilimanjaro - see his justgiving page for further details http://www.justgiving.com/Chris-Guy-Martlets so please help support him for this worthy cause.
After Saturday night's game the team make the long trek to the North West to play the Cheshire Jets on Sunday afternoon in Thunder's first BBL Championship match of the new season.
As always though, Worthing Thunder is not just about the senior team that you see in the BBL. Our junior teams are also in action over the weekend - Saturday sees the Under 18 men (who beat Bristol 63-55 in their season
opener) host the Westminster Warriors at the Angmering School at 12.30. The Under 15 boys travel to London for their first game of the season to play the Islington Panthers at St Aloysius College at midday. The Under 13 boys are also on their travels, playing at the Southend Swifts at 1pm, having started their league campaign with a win over the Brighton Cougars.
