Worthing Theatres Decision Has Been Made...

We, as we are sure many of you have, have been following the Worthing Theatres decision closely.

Worthing has an extremely rich theatrical tradition and with three working theatres we would like to see this continue. Like many others, we do not want to see these historic venues deplete to nothing and hope to have a more sustainable, influencial group of theatres and venues to come from this process in the future.

Therefore we have been closely linked with the Worthing Theatres Trust run by Jon Woodley, and were excited to hear on the 25th November that they had been chosen as one of the three bids shortlisted to go through the final stages of the process.

We were therefore disappointed, yet not fully devastated to find out this week that the council have decided to continue running the venues for the near future. We are substantially happy that the venues will remain open and in operation and know that they will have a bright, if not steady future.

After hearing the news Melanie contacted the Worthing Theatres Trust who stated that although they hadn't won the contract they will be involved in the future of the sites as a charity and are glad that the future of the theatres is still in Worthings' hands and not with an outside company.
