Wernars Pens New Sussex Contract

Sussex CCC have announced that young all-rounder Kirk Wernars has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Wernars, who turned 20 this summer, signed a one-year deal in early 2011 and broke into the first eleven squad on a number of occasions throughout the season, playing three LV=County Championship matches and also featuring in the Friends Life t20.

He has scored heavily with the bat in the Second Eleven and as well as taking wickets and he has been awarded for his efforts with a contract which will see him remain at The PROBIZ County Ground until at least the end of the 2013 season.

Wernars said of his new contract, “It’s fantastic for me to sign a new contract and I’m really excited to be here for another two years.

“This season was a learning curve and it was great to see how the club operates both on and off the field.

“I’ve now got time to re-assess and improve my game over the winter and I’ll be aiming to make more of an impact in the first team across all three formats next season.”

Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said, “Kirk has shown early signs that he has it in him to be a very good all-rounder in future years for the club and we are delighted that he has committed himself for a further two years.”
