Vinnie Darpino Kean to get started as he joins Thunder


 

Worthing Thunder Basketball Club is delighted to announce the signing of Vinnie Darpino for the 2011/2012 EBL Division One season.

 

Darpino, a 5’10 point guard was born in New Jersey, but can join the Thunder due to him having an Italian passport. Vinnie comes to the Club from Kean University, where off the court; he graduated with a bachelor degree in marketing and on the court he averaged 13.7 points and 2.2 assists in his final year.

 

Opting to stay in the States professionally, Darpino played for the now defunct Buffalo Stampede in the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (ACPBL) where he averaged 14 points in 11 games. A mini spell with German club Schalke followed, but Vinnie has decided to trade the urban lifestyle of Gelsenkirchen for the quiet seaside town of Worthing.

 

A mentally tough and skilful player who can shoot and pass the ball well to open team-mates, the 23-year-old Darpino will look to lead the team on the court, and is looking forward to the opportunity of playing in England for the Worthing Thunder.

 

“Becoming a member of the Worthing Thunder is a great opportunity. We have a chance to be really successful this year and I am very excited to be a part of it," Darpino said.

 

Clearance from his previous club pending, Vinnie will look to make his debut for Worthing away to Westminster Warriors on Saturday 8th October.
