Shoreham Airshow 2011

The 22ndRAFA Shoreham Airshow is taking place on August 20th and 21st at Shoreham Airport, and is set to be the largest to date.

The 5 Hour Flying Display will exhibit some of the finest displays in the country, including recreations of the early dogfights by The Great War Display Team in eight aircraft.

The Parachute Regiment will be bringing their ‘Para Tower’ to the event to link in with the Red Devils Freefall Parachute Team Display, giving members of the public the chance to experience the thrill of being at the end of a parachute.

Airshow Organiser, Don Bean MBE, said: “This is a first for us and what was so nice was that the Parachute Regiment contacted us with an offer to bring this to Shoreham”.

There will be a large number of trade stands and the popular craft fair situated near the large fun fair making it a busy day for all on the ground.

Airside displays will also take place with a parade of vehicles and ‘look-a-likes’ with the RAF Cadet Band prior to the flying display, the main theme of the show being a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the RAF Search and Rescue Force (SARF).

There will be several displays from the Shoreham Lifeboat crew, RAF Valley (where Prince William is stationed), and a Consolidated PBY5A Catalina which wears the marking of USAAF 8th Air Force Search and Rescue aircraft based in East Anglia during the Second World War.

The theme continues with a static Combat Search and Rescue equipped Chinook from RAF Odiham, with representatives from the RAF, Royal Navy and Army on hand to discuss careers in the forces.

Modern day RAF flying displays come from the Hawk, Tucano, Tutor, and SAR helicopters. The Royal Air Force Falcons Parachute Team will also be present for one of the two days, whilst the Red Devils Team will be there on the next.

There are even more displays to enjoy, and every taste is sure to be catered for; with Jayne Torvill OBE as the Airshow’s patron, there is the right mix to cater for all in the air and on the ground.
