Swamp Juice(June 9, 7pm) Worthing Connaught Theatre
A shadow puppet menagerie of bickering fairies flies to Worthing’s Connaught.
Canadian puppeteer Jeff Achtem invites audiences to a swamp like no other where bickering snails, opera-singing mice and a spineless swamp monster all reside.
On Saturday June 9, Jeff will use shadow puppetry, pieces of rubbish, tinsel and string to bring his gurgling new adventure about life in a swamp to Worthing’s Connaught Theatre. Accompanied by an original Bayou-inspired score by David Henry, Nick Carver and Tristan Kelley, he weaves a bewitching tale which leads to a 3D finale.
Award-winning Swamp Juice features over 60 puppets which have been created by Jeff and will be brought to life by his silent clown character, Mr Bunk. The character is influenced by traditional European street clowning and audience improvisation.
Jeff’s performances are in demand worldwide and he has appeared at arts festivals, variety theatres and cabarets around the globe. He studied at l’École de Mime Omnibus Montréal and then in the Le Coq style with Cirque de Soleil clown, Rene Bazinet. He was a master-class resident at le Hanger des Mines, Southern France with clown maestro, Michel Dallaire and has studied performance puppetry with Neville Tranter and the Australian shadow-master Richard Bradshaw.
The enchanting tale was sold-out for its full Edinburgh Festival run and while it is aimed at children of all ages, the 3D finale has made every age-group shriek and under-7s may therefore wish to stay away.
