The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) recently congratulated Spofforths’ student Jake Standing, for achieving top marks in the country in some of the toughest industry examinations. Jake, who has been studying with the Sussex accountancy firm for three years, is set to receive the prestigious ICAEW Quilter Prize for securing first place in the Order of Merit in the Technical Integration Business Reporting paper. He will also receive the Order of Merit for his results in the Professional Stage examinations at The South Eastern Society of Chartered Accountants annual dinner, on 19 October.

Having successfully passed all of the examinations towards the Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification, Jake is now a qualified Chartered Accountant. He looks forward to collecting his national award at a prize winning ceremony in May 2013. The Quilter prize was founded in honour of William Quilter who was the President of the old Institute of Accountants in 1870 and was in partnership with its honorary secretary, Thomas Weldon.

Peter Hussey, Staff Partner for Spofforths said: “Year on year our students continue to build on their exam successes to achieve national and regional awards and we are extremely proud of them. They invest a great deal of time in their studies and we provide them with support and encouragement along the way. I would like to congratulate Jake for his recent achievements. He is a very talented individual and it is wonderful to see him progress with Spofforths.”

Jake, who is based at Spofforths Worthing office, added: “Over the last three years I have really enjoyed studying for the ACA qualification and gaining practical experience with Spofforths. I am delighted to be a qualified Chartered Accountant which has been a long-held ambition. It was fantastic to receive my results from the ICAEW and it feels like a great achievement to be awarded the Quilter Prize. Thinking ahead, I plan to become a Chartered Tax Adviser and look forward to moving my career forward with the firm.”

Gavin Aspden, ICAEW Director of Qualifications, said: “In the current economic climate the role of the Chartered Accountant is proving to be more and more important. Their success today opens up global career opportunities across international markets, but also sets them on the fast track to business leadership.”
