Eddie the Eagle, Ambassador Daredevil for Sparks – The Children’s Medical Research Charity, took on the Worthing Birdman challenge of flying off Worthing Pier on 14 August to raise both monies and awareness for mums to be, babies and children. Fully kitted with skis, poles, goggles and boots, and wearing a Sparks Superman cape, Eddie achieved 7 metres and won from the Indigo Restaurant, a bottle of champagne for each metre. The first bottle, signed by Eddie will be in the raffle at the Indigo ‘a word before dinner” on Monday 30th August. Eddie also won the prize of the funniest moment during the weekend, his reaction “Crikey – thank you”, his family enjoyed their weekend in Worthing and thanked everyone for the warm welcome they were given.
Sparks is a unique children’s charity funding medical research into the prevention, treatment and cure for conditions and illnesses affecting children, babies and expectant mothers. Every year in the UK, around 700,000 babies are born. Most are born healthy, but sadly 1 in 30 will be born with a condition or disability which can affect them for life. Sparks what to change this – there will be children living in your neighbourhood who have already benefitted from research funded by Sparks.
Eddie has worked with Sparks for a number of years taking part in bike rides, golf, and runs, as well as being an incredible support in raising awareness for us. His Birdman ski kit, including the Sparks Superman Cape will be put on Ebay.
