Latest Blog from ALVERSTONE AUTOS

The exhaust emissions standards for new cars have required a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) in the exhaust of diesel cars since 2009. Cars before 2009 may have one fitted too (mainly after 2005, so please call your dealership or check online to see if a DPF has been fitted to your vehicle).

DPFs catch particles of soot in the exhaust. However, they have to be emptied regularly to maintain performance. This is called 'regeneration' - where the collected soot is burnt off at high temperature to leave only a tiny ash residue.

Vehicle regeneration is done in two ways, on motorway-type runs, when exhaust temperature is high enough to burn off the soot or through the engine management computer (ECU) making small adjustments to increase the exhaust temperature and initiate regeneration when build up gets to 45%.

If you fail to regenerate your vehicle, soot will continue to build up. When your vehicle reaches around 75% build up of soot, you can expect to see other warning lights come on and lack of vehicle power.

At this point you'll need to take the car to a dealer (or possibly an independent) for regeneration or replacement filter. Replacement can cost in excess of £1000. We offer a viable alternative, removing the DPF instead of replacement. This means that the problem can NEVER come back! Prices start at only £400.

Dont pay dealer prices

  • DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) Delete & Software Removal, starting at only £400.00
  • Our option is more cost effective than buying and replacing your DPF and will prevent an further DPF issues.
  • Fully compliant with UK MOT legislation, we remove the DPF from within the exhaust system and from your vehicles ECU software. The process takes approximately 5 hours, so please book your car in for a full day.
  • At the same time, we can also remap your ECU for improved performance and fuel economy, should you request it.

Note: Many services offer to remove DPFs which may be cheaper, however, this is frequently only for the software removal or the process may not be done to comply with UK MOT legislation.

DPF cleaning services may also be offered. This is usually a short term fix, if at all successful. Removal is the only way to be sure of a successful repair.
