A brand new Adur & Worthing food and drink festival is planning to run from

7 -15 July 2012.

The event already has the support of the Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce, the Worthing Town Centre Initiative and some restaurateurs but we need more ‘foodies’ on board. So if you are a local food producer, grower, chef, caterer, retailer, restaurateur or publican then please get in touch.

The aim is to get taste buds tingling at the thought of so much lovely food and drink being showcased at this new initiative. Food and drink businesses can get involved by having stalls, giving demonstrations or tastings, create a special festival menu, dish, cocktail or offer for the period of the festival.

An ideal location to start and finish the event is currently being sought for both areas, with Worthing Lido area a favourite to kick-start the festival and ‘piggybacking’ onto the already successful Shoreham Chilli Festival in Adur to finish it.

Cllr Jim Funnell, Adur Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “We know we’ve got some fantastic producers and growers’ right here on our doorstep. This will be a marvellous way to celebrate all that is local. I am really excited about this initiative and hope all of you will be too and get involved. The interest in sustainability and buying local appears to be growing all the time so let us do what we do best and show off what we’ve got.”

Cllr Bryan Turner, Worthing Cabinet Member for Regeneration, adds: “Although there isn’t a specific budget for this event we thought it would be good to come together under one ‘festival’ banner for a period of time. We can help by providing stalls and publicity but basically we are appealing to all of you ‘foodies’ to come forward to get involved in making this event something to be proud of in our area. Worthing is already fortunate to have a great variety and choice of places to eat and drink. This new festival will be a fantastic opportunity for them all to showcase what they have to offer.”

“We are very excited to get involved” says Tina Tilley, CEO Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce, “and see this as a great opportunity to promote all the local businesses that provide a diverse food and drink offer across our whole area. This is a fun way to encourage local trade and as we have a wealth of different businesses it will be sure to surprise people to find what is available locally! This adds to the tourism offer and irrespective of if you are a big or small business you can get involved!”

Sharon Clarke, Worthing Town Centre Manager, adds: “The Worthing Town Centre Initiative are happy to be involved with this festival which will really help to promote the wonderful food and drink offer Worthing has for its residents and visitors.”
