A great summer of opportunity for Worthing

With the total visitor spend in Worthing up by 2% on last year, our beautiful stretch of coastline and country offers a great deal to be positive about this summer.

The Visit Worthing Information Centre at The Dome on Marine Parade is now open and alongside our own Visit Worthing website, Tourism South East are launching a new consumer website in June to promote their ‘Make it a GREAT 2012’ campaign – ‘Holidays at Home are Great’, which will give nationwide opportunities to attract visitors to our town.

Furthermore, the new Seaconomics project,  which is tourism support project being delivered by Worthing Borough Council in conjunction with 11 other partners across northern Europe, aims to create a dynamic waterfront environment to encourage further investment in the town.  The project also aims to give local tourism providers the support needed for them to further develop their businesses for future success.

Great news for the summer also rests with ‘The Big Air Open’ Kitesurfing Classic, which expects to attract both national and international coverage, and put Worthing firmly on the map for Kitesurfing heaven due to our ‘Westerly Winds.  Lewis Crathern, known internationally for his big air skills & Pier Jumping, commented: “I am extremely excited about The Big Air Open, especially as it takes place in my home town of Worthing. This will be an amazing format for Kitesurfers of all levels to take on the wind and waves, show off their skills and compete for The Big Air Open Title.”

Worthing & Adur will also host its inaugural Food and Drink Festival this summer between the 7th and 15th July, and encompassing the Shoreham Chilli Festival, promises a week of cookery demonstrations, family fun, market stalls, tasting opportunities and a showcase of all that is good and great about the fabulous food and drink in our area.

Worthing is also lucky enough to be on the route for the Olympic Torch and with the Worthing Birdman flying again and the Shoreham Airshow attracting thousands of visitors, there is something to appeal to everyone.
