Wolverhampton’s vaccine bus will be at Highfields School in Penn today, offering life-saving Covid-19 vaccines to all adults living or working in the city.

The bus, which has been moving around the city over the last month, will be at Highfields School on Thursday 29 July between 1pm and 6pm, then on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 July between 10am and 4pm.

Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are available for anyone aged 18 or over, without needing to book ahead. First and second doses of vaccines are offered, but jabs must be at least 8 weeks apart.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “Highfields School have kindly hosted the vaccine bus this week as it continues to make stops around the city, taking Covid-19 vaccines to areas where they are needed most. The school is at the heart of the community, and with it now closed for the holidays, it's a great opportunity to use it to help deliver this life-saving vaccine.

“There’s no need to book an appointment; you can just go along and get a jab any time that suits. First doses are available for anyone who hasn’t had one yet, and second doses are also being given, so long as it has been at least eight weeks since the first one.

“Vaccination gives good protection from serious illness caused by the virus but isn’t complete until you’ve had two doses. It is also required for travel to many countries abroad and could soon be needed to visit nightclubs and large-scale events in this country too.”

Dr Kam Ahmed, Wolverhampton GP and Covid Vaccination Programme Lead said: “The bus is travelling around the city to help to increase uptake.

“It provides easy access to get your walk-in Covid-19 vaccination, first or second dose.

“Please come along to the bus whilst it’s in your local area.”

In addition to the vaccine bus, Covid-19 vaccinations are available at a number of other walk-in clinics open across the city at health centres, churches and at Aldersley Leisure Village. No appointment is needed at any of these, and most have Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines. More information including locations and times can be found at www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/localvaccine
