For the third year running, children opening an account with the credit union will have their savings matched pound for pound to a maximum of £75 to purchase school uniform.
Funded by the Government’s Crisis and Resilience Fund, the scheme is aimed at helping children start good financial habits at a young age, while also supporting parents with the cost of uniform, which can be a real worry especially after the expense of the summer holidays.
Leader of the council, Councillor Stephen Simkins said he realised how difficult it could be to afford uniform for constantly growing children, especially in these challenging financial times.
‘We’re determined to support our residents when they need us most and that’s why I’m glad we’re able to provide this help again for families with the credit union.
‘This is a great scheme and helps not only pay for school uniform, but also get children into saving from a young age. I’d encourage parents to sign up now so they won’t feel so much pressure come the start of term in September.’
Wolverhampton City Credit Union CEO, Tameka Spencer said: ‘Tackling the rising cost of school uniform is a key priority for us at Wolverhampton City Credit Union and we are proud to continue working alongside the City of Wolverhampton Council to support local families through this valuable scheme.
‘By encouraging children to save regularly from a young age, we are helping them develop positive financial habits that can benefit them throughout their lives, while also easing some of the financial pressure parents face ahead of the new school year.
‘We would encourage families to sign up early and take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to save for September.’
