ERSA's Employability Day is a national celebration of the employability and skills sector, recognising the role employment support services play in helping people move towards good work. This year's campaign focused on supporting economic growth and helping to achieve the Government's ambition of an 80% employment rate.
As part of Employability Day 2026, the Restart Scheme in West Bromwich delivered a large-scale jobs and employability event, bringing together employers, training providers and community organisations from across the Black Country.
A wide range of organisations attended, including Walsall Council, Pertemps, YMCA and Smart Works, Home Instead, Premium Linguistic Services and West Brom Building Society, offering participants access to employment opportunities, skills provision and support services.
Alongside the jobs fair, attendees were able to take part in workshops and activities covering employability, digital skills, ESOL, self-employment and sector-based training opportunities.
Andy Bowie, Director of Employability, Skills & HAAS said: “Spending Employability Day at one of our offices made me proud of the teams who help support people every day. I spoke to participants who shared their unique stories and backgrounds with me. No two people have the same experience, and our staff have the skills and expertise to provide tailored support to help each individual. What they do is nothing but fantastic.”
With 350 individuals in attendance, the event demonstrated the strength of collaboration between businesses, support services and training providers, creating valuable opportunities for local people while helping employers engage with potential candidates from across the region.
