Oscar' Blog - Wimbledon Championships 2012

Mixing royalty with sport again I have to talk to you about Wimbledon. Now, I don’t know an awful lot about tennis to be honest. It’s extremely difficult to grasp a racket in ones paw, believe me as for the purpose of this blog I attempted it and was left rather disappointed. My little brother, Toby, ended up spotting what I was up to and in usual fashion barged over and started trying to eat the racket strings before Dad came over and took it away from both of us.

Toby eats everything he can get his paws on. Something that we never get to play with if he’s around is the Kong Squeaker Tennis Balls. They are just like your usual, bosh down the service line tennis balls but with a neat little squeaker inside and they come in a couple of different sizes from tiny to large. Another ball equally as good but much more resistant to Toby’s jaws are the Classic Rubber Balls. Because they are solid rubber, no amount of chewing on it will destroy them so I can feel safe in the knowledge that as long as I don’t lose it, I will be able to leave it round the house without a care in the world! Dad has a basket of these in the shop in various different colours, sizes and ones with bells in too.

I don’t know about you but Mum and Dad have to chuck the ball an awful lot for me while we’re out. You’d think their arms would ache but they have one of those ball chuckers to help them out. They look like a plastic rod but you can scoop the ball up at one end so you don’t have to bend down every time to pick it up and you can throw it further than when just using your arm. As well as the usual regular size, you can get mini ones too.

Now back to the tennis. Did you know that in 2003 after Roger Federer won Wimbledon for the first time, he skipped off home and was dually presented with a cow that he named Juliette! I’m not sure how I’d react to being a prize; I mean what would I do? Stand there and present myself to the victor?! I presume they will kiss me and lift me up over their heads. I’d probably wriggle out of that as I’m not one for heights.

I certainly wouldn’t want to be Mr. Federer’s prize. Poor Juliette was slaughtered in 2007 prior to his record equalling 5th in a row Wimbledon title. Now, I sponsor a football team so although I want them to win, I think that for now, I will be satisfied with moderate success if it ensures my life remains intact.

There’s a lot we can take from our sporting stars of today. Their diets are designed specifically to ensure that they reach their maximum potential. Another red hot tennis star and current men’s world number 1, Novak Djokovic, lives on a gluten-free diet. You might think how the hell can this have anything to do with us dogs? Well, our diets are very important to us too.

Now, most of us will eat just about anything we can get our hands on but realistically that’s not good for our little bodies. Wheat, which Mr. Djokovic excludes from his diet, is totally useless to us as our bodies cannot digest it. It goes in one end and out the other! Why is wheat in many dog foods then? The simple answer is that it makes the bag cheaper than another bag but don’t be fooled! You are paying for us to poop out the same stuff that we ate without doing anything for us! Better to go with something else so we get a bit more use out of it and you can save some money along the way.

That’s enough schpeal for today. I’m tipping Mr. Djokovic to retain his title but I’m not volunteering myself as his prize, he wins far too many titles!
