Late night shoppers in Wolverhampton can now enjoy a safer and cheaper experience after a number of city centre car parks agreed to offer 1500 free parking spaces.
There will now be four car parks in the centre of Wolverhampton to use on late night shopping evenings which began on Wednesday, November 24.
Retailers have joined the city council and Carillion in an attempt to attract more shoppers into the city centre and increase footfall in this vital period
Kevin Gwilliam, Centre Director for the Mander Centre said: “Both Mander Centre and Beatties offered free parking last year and we are delighted that there are now going to be 1500, free car parking spaces in secure car parks with cctv and lighting for people to use.”
The car parks that will be free for twelve evenings during the Christmas shopping period are House of Fraser Beatties which has 368 spaces, Birch Street (courtesy of Carillion) 320 spaces, Mander Centre, 490 spaces and the council-owned Fold Street car park with 298 spaces.
There are a further 850 spaces available at the Mander Centre and Beatties/House of Fraser, though these will not be free.
Kim Gilmour, Wolverhampton City Centre Manager said: “It’s a real partnership approach with Mander Centre, Carillion and Beatties/House of Fraser all going to open up their car parks free of charge for late night shopping to match the free evening parking in Fold Street offered by Wolverhampton City Council.
“In Wolverhampton we have a fantastic mix of over 500 retail outlets of which 280 are independent traders as well as all the high street favourites and a Beatties department store."

The car parks will be free to use from 5.30pm until normal closing time on the following dates: November 24, December 1, December 8 (all Wednesdays) and then every weekday from 13 December to December 23, (Fold Street also free on December 24). Normal charges will apply during the day. Birch Street will also be free on Saturdays during December and all on street parking remains free after 6pm as normal
