On Thursday 6th August from 12.30pm-3pm, Care UK’s Amherst House will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
At the event, visitors to the home can look forward to sampling a selection of residents' favourite cuisines and dishes from around the world, all prepared by the homes’ head chefs using local ingredients.
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and share what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Amherst House offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The home incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, while the layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
