Grosvenor House Westminster Tea Dance 09

I attended the 3rd Westminster City Council Tea Dance yesterday at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel on Mayfair's Park Lane...

What a lavish affair it was, with Cream Teas and dancing, hosted by the Lord mayor of Westminster, Duncan Sandys, and organised by Councillor Christabel Flight, who is the council's Older People Champion.

With a full entertainments programme lined-up, 1000 of Westminster's over 65's foxtrotted and Tangoed the afternoon away, escorted by Pilot Officer's and Aircraftsmen from the Queen's Colour, 63 Squadron RAF regiment and accompanied by a super 21-piece big band assembled from the four London major music schools, Trinity, Royal Academy, guildhall and Purcell.

There was a lively performance by the talented students of the Sylvia Young Theatre School and a special appearance by the Guest of Honour Leslie Phillips CBE.

Leslie, (famous for his roles as Harry Potter's Sorting Hat; Spielberg's Empire of the Sun; Lara Croft & of course The Carry on Films) wittily answered questions form his attentive audience and added a comical touch to a variety-packed afternoon....All thanks go to Westminster City Council!
