Some of Westminster's councillors have been celebrating their success after winning the popular New Year's Day Parade competition.

Their fantastic float was themed around Alice in Wonderland, the much loved children's books by Lewis Caroll. The councillors got dressed up in superb costumes inspired by the enchanting fairy tale and acted out scenes from the book. This successful is particularly notable as 2011 was the 25th anniversary of the New Year's Day Parade in Westminster!

The wonderful Alice in Wonderland costumes impressed the competition's judges so much that they beat dozens of other entrants to the £7,000 prize, which the councillors are donating to charity.

Cllr Davis said: “We were thrilled to win the first prize and are grateful to all those who gave up their time and put so much in to the makeup and costumes. As International Goodwill Ambassador for the Parade it never ceases to amaze and impress me how many high quality performers from all over the world come together to celebrate the New Year in Westminster. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation and good wishes to all of the tens of thousands of overseas performers who have preceded them and helped make the Parade the world class event it is today. “
