Shoppers usiing Westminster's markets are being encouraged to vote for their favourite traders in the annual Market Trader of the Year Competition. There are currently around 350 market traders in Westminster offering a fantastic range of healthy produce and quality bargains.

These top awards aim to give market traders the recognition that they deserve, following an increase of shoppers using markets during the recession. Markets are also a fantastic source of fresh and affordably priced local produce and healthy food. Shopping at a local market is a fantastic way to save money and get involved in the community.

69% of Westminster residents claimed that markets make local areas better places to live, in a survey conducted by the council. Traders nominated for the Market Trader of the Year Competition will be judged of presentation, customer service and quality of goods.

Cllr Brian Connell, Westminster City Council's Cabinet Member for Business, Enterprise and Skills: "Our markets are the place to go for anyone wanting to source quality fresh produce at value prices, especially in these trying economic times, and we want as many people as possible to vote in this competition for those who work at making them one of Westminster's best loved features. Markets are a source of pride for residents living near them, and we want them to vote for their local traders and recognise the vital role they play in the heart of local communities. They actually help increase the appeal of shopping districts, and can be a boost to overall trade by increasing visitor numbers."
