Today marks the deadline to submit applications for street parties in celebration of the Royal Wedding. Although the cut off point for large gatherings is today the council have said they will still consider requests for smaller parties after this.

So far the council has agreed to allow 11 applications and a further two are under consideration. These applications range from a party outside a mansion block to several streets in Soho. Many of these are commercial applications from pubs wishing to put tables and chairs along the road. Others are planning to put up bunting, have children's entertainment and flat screen tv's to show the wedding.

Local residents can also receive free advice from the council about street parties for the Royal Wedding on April 29th. This includes advice on road closures and access for emergencies, asking neighbours to park elsewhere for the day, issues with licenses and how to involve the wider community.

Leader of Westminster Council Cllr Colin Barrow said they wanted to support the local community with the minimum of fuss to ensure that everybody can enjoy the wedding celebrations.

Cllr Barrow said: "We are thrilled to be hosting one of the biggest global event this year and want to make sure people enjoy themselves whether at home, watching on the route or celebrating the historic day with their neighbours. There is one day before the official deadline but if applications are made after that date we will do our best, wherever possible to process those applications.”
