Grants are available to voluntary organisations to help improve the lives of local people through projects and events including health, sport, music and drama.

Last year, the grants helped fund 13 projects and events in the borough, including transforming Digswell Horticultural Centre into a Community Garden Project and refurbishing the café, to provide a venue for the local community.

Councillor Mandy Perkins, Executive Member for Planning, Housing and Community, said: “The grants can really help local community groups and organisations who may struggle to find funding for their projects, so it’s great that we are able to offer extra support, helping them to achieve their aims which make a big difference to the local community.”

Application forms and the criteria can be found online at www.welhat.gov.uk/grants or by calling the council’s Community Partnerships team on 01707 357179. The deadline to apply is Friday 2 June.

Applications are considered by Grants Board Members three times a year - in June, December and March.

Notes to the editor:

  • The organisation must be an incorporated or unincorporated charity, or a voluntary/community, not-for-profit group
  • At least 50% of the organisation’s members/clients/users must live or work in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield
