WORLD BACKUP DAY COMES TO WARRINGTON

Warrington-based firms are being urged to take part in a global event which encourages people to protect valuable information.

World BackUp Day was launched last year by the social news website Reddit, and quickly gained strong support from the IT industry around the globe.

The PC Support Group, which provides IT support to businesses throughout the UK is offering free consultations for firms in the week running up to World BackUp Day on Saturday March 31.

Between 2 and 4pm on Thursday 29th to Friday 30th March, engineers will be available to provide telephone briefings on how companies can use backup facilities and create policies to enforce and police data protection.

The company will also provide a limited number of site visits, on a first come first served basis, for firms to review any existing backup and data recovery processes.

Pam Case, director of The PC Support Group, Warrington, said: “Imagine coming into work to find that your files are no long there and you have no way to get them back. It does happen – and it shouldn’t.”

“Money is needlessly lost due to data loss from hardware or system failure, human error and software corruption. We are supporting World BackUp Day in a very real way because we believe permanently losing data is a completely preventable disaster. All it takes is a backup and recovery strategy.”

An effective data backup plan consists of five parts:

·         Decide what data needs to be backed up and for what period

·         Decide where to keep the backup (include local and off site)

·         Set up a process for running and checking the backups

·         Test the system

·         Regularly check the backups and do test restores to make sure it works

Backing up your important data is straightforward. Options range from simple measures including USB sticks or external hard drives, to online backup via cloud services.

Whichever service you choose will be dependent on your circumstances and specialist business needs. Speaking to an IT expert will help you get the best advice for your business.

If any business would like to book a consultation, please call 0845 564 4665 or email WorldBackUp@pcsupportgroup.com
