This museum is a gem. The thought of it having to move from its current location is unthinkable.
The former factory is a perfect place to create the atmosphere of a tannery, saddlery and all the other trades associated with leather.
The staff are so knowledgeable and bring the leather making industry alive.
Walsall Council should value its heritage in this appropriate building. I would pay to visit again

A really lovely hour or so here. The staff was so friendly and informative. My daughter was able to make a keyring and loved feeling the leather. So sad the council are looking to shut down one of the few pieces of local heritage left.

I visited the Leather Museum today with my partner. Having moved out of the area as a kid this was my first visit to the Museum. Really interesting to learn about the history of leather goods, the processes involved and the scale of the industry in the area. My Nan worked in the leather industry at H.B. Case on Hatherton Street so I have a personal connection. Great to learn that a Walsall factory supplies leather goods to
The King! A highlight of the visit was talking to some of the staff who helped us make leather key rings as souvenirs. Also purchased a new wallet in the giftshop. A lovely place - well worth a visit.

Excellent experience. It is essential that Walsall retains its industrial heritage, particularly in the leather industry. It would be good to reinstate the cafe in cooperation with Walsall College.

Walsall Leather Museum is a small but interesting exhibition that shows the way leather goods have evolved into our everyday lives. Its not hidden behind display cases, but all around you as you walk around. Touch the leathers, see the tools and workbenches. All in the original factory environment. Friendly and informative staff can help you make a simple leather keyring or bookmark. The museum shop itself shows quality leather goods from traditional UK manufacturers. All in all a great day out that could not be replicated in a different building or environment - the years of skilled craftmanship is ingrained into the building, the workbenches, tools and exhibits.

Fascinating little museum in beautiful original buildings with recreations of the various workshops and processes in the creation of leather goods. Amazing social history of the area- who knew Walsall was ( and still is) so important to the world of horse riding!
Great staff always ready to answer your questions. Kids can make their own leather key ring fobs. Highly recommend for a different day out.

Spent a wonderful couple of hours looking round this small but well laid out museum. Staff were very friendly and very informative and helpful. I understand that the long term future of this museum is under threat but if it does close we loose a window into our history that can never be replaced!

A little gem at the heart of Walsall in every way. Parking is easy and cheap over the road on Day Street. It’s easy and safe to cross with the crossings. Entry is free for all and the exhibits are of great quality and around every turn. The building, historic of course, adds to the experience. It’s important people go and use this museum so we don’t lose it. There’s so much local and British history included in the museum. Great for families and schools - as a teacher, I couldn’t believe how reasonable the workshop costs were per child for school trips. My children made a lovely key ring costing just 60p each - a great little keepsake. We then supported the museum by grabbing a drink and muffin at the cafe and the kids had a £1 each to spend at the gift shop. A lovely interactive little place that I wish I’d used before and will definitely use again. The staff were very knowledgeable and welcoming too. We teamed this up with a trip to the Art Gallery and walk along the canal. A great short, cheap day out for families of the area and beyond.

A fantastic museum, very interesting pieces and friendly staff. We did key ring stamping which was so fun, and the lovely gentleman who helped was full of knowledge and very welcoming.
Would definitely recommend for a day out.
Free entry, 60p for a keyring stamping (you can do yourself) and a little cafe for a hot drink afterwards
