The Phase 2 works will deliver improvements along Darwall Street and Lichfield Street in Walsall town centre, together with further improvements at the Skip Lane inbound and outbound bus stops.
The scheme includes new enhanced Sprint bus shelters, with real-time passenger information and improved accessibility features. Highway improvements, resurfacing and footway improvements will also be carried out at selected locations, alongside upgrades to street lighting, traffic signal equipment and associated infrastructure.
As part of the first works on Lichfield Street, contractor Fitzgerald, working on behalf of Transport for West Midlands, will remove two existing bus shelters. This will prepare the location for the installation of a new Sprint bus shelter.
The works are expected to begin on Monday 5 October, with completion anticipated by Friday 6 November. These dates are subject to change and any major changes will be communicated separately.
Work will take place during daytime hours, between 7am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Noise levels will be kept to a minimum and monitored throughout the works.
Temporary traffic restrictions, pedestrian diversions and lane closures may be required while the works are carried out. This may result in some localised traffic disruption. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained throughout.
Sprint Phase 2 will form part of the wider Sprint corridor linking Solihull with Birmingham city centre and Walsall. The scheme is intended to integrate with other transport projects, including the Midland Metro and HS2, to support an integrated transport network. Phase 2 is due to open in 2027.
