The new Rotary year began on the 1st July 2021 This year the President of the Rotary Club of Willenhall is Simon Sims who was also President in 2011/2012. Simon was born and bred in Walsall but has been living in Willenall for the last 43 years. He worked for the NHS for 46 years before finally retiring in 2015. Simon lives with his wife Diane they have a son Stuart and daughter in law Rebecca who have two children Seb aged 8 and Blake who is nearly 3. They spend a lot of time with their grandchildren as their parents both work for the NHS which has been a very tiring time for them the last 15 month.

Since his last Presidential role Simon has been an Assistant Governor on two separate occasions over five years. This has helped him to gain specialist knowledge in Rotary. In considering his proposal of President for the second time he wondered what would be different this time around well you only have to look what has happened to the world in the last 15 months and that is enough to start.

Simon goes into hie second presidential year with optimism he his minded by the saying “this is not a dress rehearsal, its the real thing”. How often do we hear people say “when I have my time again I will do it Different” if only. So, it is incumbent upon us to make the most of every day – and to enjoy doing so. That applies in our everyday lives, and as Rotarians. In my year ahead I hope that fun, fellowship and enjoyment will be evident for two reasons. Firstly, from a selfish perspective, I want other Rotarians to enjoy my year.. However, secondly, it is only by making it fun and worthwhile that we can hope to grow our numbers.

Simon is already making arrangements for his year ahead a few things he has in mind are

  • Visit to Shrewsbury Prison
  • Visit to a Brewery (Marsdens)
  • Fish and chip night supporting the Severn Valley Railway
  • Visits to local attractions
  • Supporting local charities and events
  •

Simon is deeply concerned about membership within the club together with other Rotarian's he will be working hard to hopefully raise the membership of the club. To anyone not currently involved with Rotary reading this magazine if you feel you would like to become involved, or dare I say become a member then please get in touch. Don t wait until the next time there might not be one. You can email Simon at simonwsims@aol.com
