Jaz Khutan (or Jasbant Khutan) is on The Ian Henery Show on Black Country Xtra on Sunday 2nd November and Monday 3rd November talking empowerment from disability with his latest book.
Now, Jaz isn’t your everyday IT guy. He’s an Engagement Director, Solution Architect, published author, motivational speaker, and — get this — he’s been working in IT and digital transformation for over 30 years. But his story started a long way from boardrooms and business systems.
Jaz was born in the late 1960s at Walsall Manor Hospital, the eldest of four children in a first-generation British Indian family. He grew up in a tiny two-up, two-down terrace house in Willenhall — with an outside toilet! His dad worked as a forklift driver, his mum as a sewing machinist, and together they built a family on hard work, love, and resilience.
Jaz himself was born with cerebral palsy, and like many disabled children of that time, he spent a lot of his early years in hospitals. In fact, he didn’t manage to write his full name until he was 11 years old — but that didn’t stop him. Not one bit. He went on to pass his A-levels, study Economics at York University, and carve out an incredible career in technology.
He started out as an internal auditor in the public sector — local government and the NHS — before switching to IT in the mid-90s. Since then, he’s implemented major finance and ERP systems all over the world. He’s led teams, shaped digital strategies, and helped organisations transform how they work. And he’s done it all with an unstoppable drive and a sense of humour that keeps everyone around him inspired.
People who meet Jaz often describe him as “inspirational” — but he’ll tell you he’s just “a people person who loves what he does.”
On the personal side, Jaz is also a dad — raising two energetic boys while managing life with a disability. He’s open about the challenges that come with that — the physical barriers, the exhaustion, the constant balancing act — but he talks about it with honesty and laughter.
He’s even turned his experiences into words — publishing two books with the kind of titles you don’t forget:
Jaz also spends time visiting schools, talking to young people about resilience, confidence, and going after the life they want — no matter what stands in the way.
On The Ian henery Show we’re diving into his story — from hospital wards to boardrooms, from setbacks to success, his love of writing books to help the disabled —and how his sense of humour and perspective on life just might change yours too.
