When do the clocks go forward in 2018?

Don't get caught out this Sunday - make sure you know what the right time is after the clocks change on Sunday 25th March.

When do I change my clock?

This weekend!

The UK will swap to British Summer Time on Sunday March 25th at 1am, which means you will need to put your clock forward by an hour.

Luckily most mobile phone and radio-controlled clocks will do this automatically, but check just in case.

How do I remember which direction to change the clocks?

Avoid confusion and memorise the simple phrase 'spring forward, fall back'

The clocks always go forward by an hour on the last weekend in March in Spring and go back on the final weekend of October in Autumn.

Why do we change the clocks?

Introduced during World War One, the moving of the clocks was first done by Germany and Austria to save on coal usage.

It was invented by George Vincent Hudson who was a New Zealand entomologist in 1895, while British businessman William Willett is also credited with the idea as a way of getting up earlier and so having more daylight hours after work.
