ANDI: Clive Beardsmore Artist Award

Coventry-based artist ANDI documents and reflects on queer and trans experiences through powerful oil paintings. As the winner of the Clive Beardsmore Artist Award, she is spending twelve weeks in the Gallery’s studio developing new, large-scale works supported by creative coaching from Ceri Hand.

Join Head of Exhibitions, Deborah Robinson, curator of Studio Prints; Celebrating the Balakjian Collection and Alex Jolly, Head of Visitor Experience for a tour of the show.This major exhibition, features artworks acquired for Walsall’s Permanent Collection through the Cultural Gifts Scheme, administered by Arts Council England.
The works come from the archive of London based Studio Prints, which was established by the artist Dorothea Wight (1944-2013) in 1968. Wight, alongside her husband, Marc Balakjian (1938-2017), produced prints for world-renowned British artists for over 40 years. Featuring prints by Frank Auerbach, Marc Balakjian, Stephen Conroy, Lucian Freud, Leon Kossoff, Celia Paul, Dorothea Wight. The tour will include moving round the Floor 3 galleries. Stools are available for visitors if required. Booking essential as numbers are limited.

Jaskirt Dhaliwal-Boora: Fractured Landscapes and How We Heal

Hannah Maybank: Un-Still
Throughout March, Free admission.
This exhibition, from nearby Stafford-born artist, Hannah Maybank, took inspiration from the 1974 Garman Ryan Collection – a collection that first went on display in the gallery above the library on Lichfield Street. This collection would go on to have a pivotal influence on Hannah’s development as an artist. Alice Weldon’s drawing of Cyclamen inspired work for her Art A-Level, and now Hannah has created of a brand new painting, ‘Gathering’, featuring chrysanthemum flowers, as a gift for the Gallery’s 25th birthday.

The Great Big School Clean 2026 From Friday 13 March to Sunday 29 March, schools nationwide will be joining the Great British Spring Clean led by Keep Britain Tidy and Walsall schools are invited to join movement. We are encouraging pupils to care for their environment, build teamwork and community pride and make a real difference to their local area

Assistive Objects 2025 – Exhibition by Rachael Colley
Tuesday, 31 March, 10am - 4pm- Free admission
Presenting Assistive Objects 2025, a body of work developed during Rachael’s 2025 Artist Residency at Walsall Leather Museum, supported by the John Feeney Trust, Heritage Crafts Association, and QEST.
Rachael, who lives with Systemic Sclerosis (SSc), uses her own lived experience to drive her work. Through photography, the work captures bodily movements exploring flexibility and dexterity, turning written reflections of physical decline into a poignant and often playful visual reality. Rachael took inspiration from Walsall’s historic saddlery trades to create this masterpiece.
