Welcome Win For Walsall

Following on from Walsall's disappoinment at Stockport last Saturday it was good to see the Saddlers return to a win over lowly Wycombe Wanderers at the Banks's Stadium on Easter Monday, which went a long way to confirm their League One status. The visitors had four former Walsall players in their line up including local hero Dean Keates and all four were wanting to put one over their former team but Walsall went into a 2-0 lead by half time.

Walsall took the lead after 7 minutes. Julian Gray won his team a corner, he swung the flag kick in towards Manny Smith who made no mistake with a powerful header. Midway through the second half Walsall doubled their lead with a smart move and terrific finish from Gray who has now scored in each of his last three games. Darren Byfield found Alex Nicholls who in turn noticed Gray who curled a shot in off the post.

This was the cue for Saddlers to surely press on and chalk up a decent win to give the home fans something to remember but Wycombe battled on and in the 78th minute got their rewards when Adam Hinshelwood pounced to give Walsall fans the jitters. Walsall themselves had a few chances but couldn't force any more goals.

So the busy Easter period has seen Saddlers pick up four valuable points and with Tranmere at home on Saturday there is another chance to grab three more points.
