The free winter event will bring together local performers, artists, makers and community groups for an afternoon of festive entertainment and hands-on activities.
Delivered by Walsall Council and produced by Bostin’ Creative, the event will feature a programme of connected activities and festive moments across the town centre, giving residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to explore, get creative and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere.
The event will open with a special appearance by the Mayor of Walsall alongside the cast of this year’s Walsall Arena pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, outside the Town Hall at 3.30pm.
Christmas lights will illuminate the town centre from the afternoon, adding extra sparkle to the celebrations. This year’s event will take a slightly different format, with activities and entertainment taking place throughout the afternoon rather than a formal lights switch-on ceremony.
There will be plenty of live entertainment inside and out, with performances from Walsall born Singer Songwriter Joe Summers, local Folk Band - Ember Wren, Renee Tiana, Voices Entwined and Impact Steel Band.
The Town Hall will officially open for activities from 3:45 - 6:30 where The Table will be opening once again, with hot chocolate and delicious festive treats for you to enjoy.
At the same time in the Town Hall you can drop into our free, family friendly, Makers Workshops; try festive decoration making with Reinvented CIC, Cards Full of Cheer with Bostin’ Creative, lantern making, metal engraving and more, plus a vibrant Makers Market, full of treasures, just in time for Christmas.
There will be live music and dance to enjoy on the town hall stage as you browse and performances from local choirs outside too!’
Bostin' Brass and Creative Factory will meet at the Bridge at 4.45pm and 5.45pm for a musical Lantern Parade, we would like to encourage people to bring their own lantern to join the parade, but there will also be opportunity to make your own lantern on the day in one of the workshops in the Town Hall.
You can also expect to see Street Performers, DJs and Musical Theatre collectives popping up there too, with projection mapping outside The Crossing, once it goes dark throughout the night, which will add a spectacular visual element to the festivities.
“ We’re really looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors into Walsall town centre for our Winter MakerFest.
Councillor Nicky Barker, Deputy Leader
This year’s festive celebrations will take a different format, reflecting the operational and safety considerations involved in delivering an event of this size and nature whilst regeneration work takes place in Walsall Town Centre.
We want families and visitors to explore the different activities, support our local makers and businesses, and enjoy a festive day out in Walsall. With a programme of activities taking place throughout the event, there will be lots of opportunities to get involved and experience something special. “
