Walsall recorded their fourth win in five games against Portsmouth at the Banks's Stadium with a 2-0 win before the SKY TV cameras with goals from Febian Brandy and Will Grigg. The game marked the second anniversary of manager Dean Smith's stint at Walsall Football Club and he was delighted after the game. Portsmouth are a club in turmoil and it wasn't so long ago that they were a Premiership side winning the FA Cup. These days they have a job to win the toss before the kick off.

This win was a good team effort with everyone playing their part and it was also a relief to all that Saddlers didn't throw away a 2-0 lead. Brandy was, as expected, recalled following his one match ban at the expense of Flo Cuvelier who is out injured. Youngster Mal Benning took the place of other injury victim Andy Taylor. It took 28 minutes for Walsall to take the lead. Will Grigg found Brandy who slid the ball home. It was then all Walsall till half time. In the 40th minute Will Grigg helped himself from close range. The second half saw a few more good chances for Walsall and Pompey got more into it in the last ten minutes but that was too much too late.
