Walsall Well Beaten Against Scunthorpe

Walsall produced one of their worst ever performances in their 22 year Bescot history in a desperate 1-4 defeat against Scunthorpe United who had not won a game in eight outings and were crushed by four goals to nil in the FA Cup last weekend against Gillingham. For Walsall to lose by such a margin was bad enough but its the way the team under performed which rankled with the supporters especially after Scunthorpe played out the whole of the second half with ten men.

Another disappointing factor was that just 2,787 fans bothered to turn up. Take away the away following and you can say Walsall could only muster two and a half thousand fans for this game. Saddlers held out for the first 12 minutes before Niall Canavan opened the night's goal activity. By the half hour mark it was 2-0 when Duffy nipped in. Then with half time rapidly approaching, David Prutton and Adam Chambers went flying into a tackle. As a result the Scunthorpe man was sent off.

The visitors got their third in the 49th minute and Clarke scored their fourth on 74 minutes. The Saddlers goal came from Will Grigg on 90 minutes. It was a major blow for Walsall's shell-shocked team. It is hoped that more loan players can be obtained and this awful st of results can be changed.
