The awareness day will act as a catalyst, sparking 16 Days of Action until Wednesday 10 December 2025.
White Ribbon Day aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence against women and girls. Walsall Council is encouraging residents, particularly men and boys, in communities across the borough to support the White Ribbon Day campaign, “We Speak Up”.
“ As a family man with a daughter and a granddaughter, I am supporting the ‘We Speak Up’ campaign for this year’s White Ribbon Day.
Councillor Mike Bird
Walsall stands in solidarity with those who have suffered abuse at the hands of men, and we will continue to challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate gender inequality “
Leader of Walsall Council
The 16 Days of Action, that follow White Ribbon Day, have a strong focus on one of the fastest growing forms of violence against women and girls which is digital abuse.
According to UN Women, the organisers behind the 16 Days of Action, one in three women experience gender-based violence during their lifetime. It is estimated that between 16 and 58 per cent of women and girls face digital abuse.
Abuse that starts online often transcends into offline violent behaviour in real life. These behaviours can include coercion, physical abuse, sexual harassment and exploitation. To raise awareness, Walsall Council has organised several events in the borough to support the campaign. Free resources are also being provided in libraries across the borough.
