The bus will be at Beechdale Community Centre, Walsall (WS2 7DY) on Wednesday 23 September from 9:30am to 3pm. The Walsall event will have a special focus on women's health, including information on menopause, diabetes and cervical screening, although everyone is welcome to attend.
The Cancer Bus Tour is visiting locations across Birmingham, the Black Country and Solihull to help people learn more about cancer signs and symptoms, the importance of screening and the steps they can take to improve their health. The bus will provide opportunities to speak with NHS staff and partner organisations, ask questions and access information and support.
The tour will help residents know what is normal for them and recognise when something does not feel right. This includes symptoms that may seem vague or easy to dismiss, such as ongoing tiredness, unexplained weight loss, persistent bloating, a cough that does not go away, changes in toilet habits, or unusual pain. Most symptoms will not be cancer but early diagnosis can make treatment more effective, and residents are being encouraged to seek advice if they notice any persistent changes in their health.
Residents will be able to find out more about the NHS cancer screening programmes, including breast, bowel and cervical screening, which can help detect cancer early when it is often easier to treat.
The event is also expected to feature a mobile cervical screening vehicle, giving residents an opportunity to see the service and learn more about cervical screening, although screening tests will not be carried out on the day. This element is intended to help raise awareness and encourage uptake of screening among eligible women.
