Between June and August 2026, volunteers collected 6,073 bags of litter and dedicated 2,761 hours to helping keep Walsall clean.
The latest figures highlight the ongoing contribution of the amazing volunteers involved in the Walsall Community Litter Watch (WCLW), which was established in August 2019 to help address litter across the borough.
Among those making a regular contribution are Tina and Graham Farmer, who have been shortlisted as finalists in the Express & Star Black Country Heroes 2026 awards for their dedication to litter picking across Walsall.
The couple have collected more than 750 bags of litter this year alone, regularly litter picking around Bescot Stadium and supporting community clean-ups and groups across the borough.
“ Our Community Litter Watch is a great example of people across Walsall taking pride in the places they call home.
Councillor Ian Benton, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene and Enforcement
“Thousands of bags of litter have been removed by volunteers over the past three months, representing thousands of hours given freely to help keep our streets, parks and green spaces clean. I am extremely grateful to each and every volunteer who has given their time and lead by example in showing how our home should be treated.
“The dedication of people like Tina and Graham shows the difference that volunteers can make. “
Walsall Council can provide hi-vis jackets, litter pickers, gloves and bags to residents to help make litter picking as easy as possible.
