Mr Dennis Anson served the borough with honour for 25 years. He was first elected to the council in May 1991 as a representative for the Pleck ward, and he remained a steadfast voice for his community until his retirement in May 2016. In the 2012-2013 municipal year, he was inaugurated as the Mayor of Walsall.
During his time as Mayor, Dennis was known for his tireless fundraising efforts. He dedicated his mayoral year to supporting Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, causes close to his heart.
“ I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Mayor Dennis Anson. Dennis was a true gentleman who served our borough with dignity and kindness. He gave his time generously to the community and always placed people at the heart of everything he did. He will be remembered for his integrity and unwavering commitment to others. My heartfelt condolences go to his family and loved ones at this difficult time. “
The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Louise Harrison
“ Dennis was a great colleague for whom I had the utmost respect for. He was a 'community man' through and through, serving his constituents with passion from 1991 right up until his retirement. He was a loyal and long-standing leader in Walsall's politics and his contribution to the Council and the borough was significant. Our sincere gratitude to him for his service and our condolences to his family and friends at this time. “
Councillor Mike Bird, Leader of Walsall Council
In honour of Dennis’s long-standing commitment to health research, donations are being gratefully accepted for Blood Cancer UK (formerly known as Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research), continuing the support Dennis championed during his time in office.
