Each year, hundreds of Commonwealth flags are raised and flown in significant positions across the UK and other nations to celebrate Commonwealth Day. Today, Walsall Council House provided the backdrop for one of these flag raising ceremonies to celebrate the continuing success of the Commonwealth.

Commonwealth Day is observed on the second Monday of March annually to celebrate the shared values that connect two and a half billion people across 56 countries.
Local schools were invited to the Council House to take part in the celebrations. Pupils from Abbey Primary School, All Saints National Academy, Busill Jones Primary School and Jubilee Academy Mossley, all joined the mayor for the official flag raising ceremony outside the Council House where they also recited the Commonwealth Affirmation.
Following the official ceremony, attendees were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour for refreshments. Project work completed by local students that was prepared for the occasion was also showcased.
