Local volunteers, community groups and partner organisations will come together for more than 30 organised events as part of the national campaign, helping to tidy parks, streets, green spaces and canals while promoting pride in the borough.
Events will take place in communities right across Walsall. Volunteers will be gathering in Willenhall on 8 March with the Wombles of Willenhall and local PCSOs, while residents in The Delves can join a community pick on 14 March as part of the Warmup Skill Up programme.
In Beechdale Park, volunteers will meet on 16 March to help tidy the popular green space, and later the same day another community pick will take place in Willenhall’s Rosehill Gardens. Meanwhile, groups such as the Pelsall Wombles, Streetly Volunteers and Pleck Picking Posse will be holding clean-ups in their local neighbourhoods throughout the campaign.
Other planned activities include litter picks along canal towpaths in Brownhills and Aldridge, woodland clean-ups at Longwood Coppice, and community events in Bentley, Blakenall, Caldmore, Darlaston, and Bloxwich.
“ We’re proud to support the Great British Spring Clean and the many volunteers who give so much to help keep Walsall looking its best.
Councillor Suky Samra, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene at Walsall Council
“Litter picking is about much more than just tidying up. It brings communities together, improves wellbeing and helps people feel proud of the places they live.
“With events happening across the borough, I’d encourage anyone who wants to get involved to come along and take part. “
Last year’s campaign in Walsall saw a fantastic response from residents. During the two-week Great British Spring Clean, 540 volunteers collected more than 1,750 bags of litter from streets, parks and public spaces.
Those volunteers contributed 994 hours of their time, the equivalent of one person litter-picking continuously for more than 41 days.
The campaign is supported locally through Walsall Community Litter Watch, which helps provide equipment, advice and support for volunteer litter pickers across the borough.
