Ama Johal, who lives with MND and has previously shared his story on Black Country Radio, is helping to organise two community events on behalf of the Black Country Motor Neurone Group.
The first event, Walk to d'Feet MND, will take place at Walsall Arboretum on Saturday 20 September, bringing together supporters, families and friends for a sponsored walk in support of people living with MND.
The second event is a Coffee Morning being held at Halesowen Golf Club on Friday 17 October, offering members of the local community the chance to come together over coffee and cake while raising vital funds for the MND Association.
As well as fundraising, the events aim to increase awareness of motor neurone disease and encourage local people to become involved with the Black Country Motor Neurone Group as volunteers, committee members or potentially as a future group lead.
Motor neurone disease is a fatal neurological condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, causing progressive muscle weakness and impacting a person's ability to walk, talk, eat and breathe. There is currently no cure.
Ama Johal said:
"Living with MND presents challenges every day, but the support I have received from my local community has been incredibly important.
These events are an opportunity for people to come together, have fun, raise awareness and make a real difference to those affected by MND. Every pound raised helps provide support for families living with this devastating disease and helps fund vital research towards effective treatments and ultimately a cure.
We would also love to hear from anyone interested in volunteering with the group or helping to shape its future. Local support is essential in ensuring we can continue supporting people affected by MND across the Black Country."
The Black Country Motor Neurone Group provides support and a sense of community for people living with MND, their families and carers. Funds raised through local events help the MND Association improve care, provide support services and invest in world-class research.
Everyone is welcome to attend the events, support the cause and learn more about the impact of MND.
