A Walsall businessman, inventor and star of TV`s Dragons Den is to appear on Black Country Radio.  

Ran Sohal (pictured) is a dedicated and highly experienced  British educator and engineer with over three decades of experience in teaching physics and related subjects at the higher education level, complemented by five decades of business acumen and two decades as a chief engineer in the LED lighting industry.

A passionate innovator with a proven track record in research and development, particularly in the fields of red light therapy and vertical farming. Inventor of several pioneering products in LED lighting technology. Committed to continuous learning, travel, and making a positive impact on society. A philanthropist by nature and great love for humanity.  

"I deeply believe in creativity and innovation" said Ran Sohal.  "I am the founder member of Balloons Wine Bar and Bistro 1978, which was an anchor and became an inspiration and institution in Walsall.   

I have appeared on Dragons Den    I am a firm believer that Sikhism and storytellers have a duty to tell the truth about their experiences — even when uncomfortable — and to represent communities with honesty rather than stereotypes.   

I am open, I have no secrets, but firmly believe in honesty and truth.   I have always held myself accountable to my fame, work and heritage, striving for transparency in how we portrays culture, gender, and identity.   

For me , truth is not about perfection but authenticity. showing real people, real struggles, and real joy without distortion or pretence. 

I have travelled to India overland, FE and HE for 30+ years and held my responsible to my peers "  

Ran was a businessman & engineer - 50 years  Successfully ran a business for five decades, demonstrating strong leadership, strategic planning, and business development skills. Chief Engineer in LED Lighting (20 years) Spearheaded numerous projects, leading teams to develop advanced LED lighting solutions. Focused on energy-efficient, smart lighting and sustainable lighting technologies.   

Ran was also an educationalist  Teaching and Education (32 years) Extensive experience teaching physics and related subjects in further and higher education institutions.  

 Inventor Inventor of Flexiled I - drive lamp holder, the Plug and the directional gimbal, the Hive, 1st of its kind in the World with excellent traits and features. This was presented by Ranjit on BBC’s  Dragons Den and received international praise.
