People from across Walsall and Aldridge will be coming together to remember their loved ones at a special service arranged by St Giles Hospice this week (30 November).

The Light Up a Life services, which are taking place across the St Giles Hospice region, are an opportunity for anyone who has lost someone to remember them and celebrate their lives.

The events will include a services at Aldridge Methodist Church at 4pm on Saturday 30th November.

Everyone is welcome at the Light Up a Life services, where people who have dedicated a light on one of the charity’s Christmas trees this year are invited to see their lights being switched on and to view their messages in the Book of Memories.

Director of Fundraising for St Giles Hospice, Elinor (corr) Eustace said: "Christmas is a time to celebrate - however, we also know it can be a particularly difficult time of year as we remember the loved ones who can’t be with us.

“At St Giles Hospice we recognise that many of our families like to come together to remember family and friends who are no longer with us and we encourage people to make a dedication and join us at one of our services.

“Our Light up a Life services are open to everyone, not just for those who have been supported by St Giles and they give people the opportunity to reflect, and honour the memory of their loved ones; they also help us to raise vital funds for the hospice and enable us to continue caring for those people in the local community who need us, when they need us most."

Everyone who has dedicated a light will receive a special keepsake Light up a Life card to display at Christmas time, featuring the name of their loved one, their personal message and this year’s Light up a Life poem.

The name of loved ones and personal messages are included in the Book of Memories, which is available to view at all of the Light up a Life services. The Book of Memories will also be available to view in St Giles hospices and some service locations throughout 2020.

St Giles Hospice would like to thank Lilies Funeral Directors for their sponsorship of this year’s Light Up a Life services.
