Two Games from Wembley

Walsall beat Tranmere Rovers away on penalties in the JPT to secure a place in the area final of the competition which is over two legs so Saddlers are now just two games from a debut appearance at Wembley Stadium. What was remarkable about this win at Prenton Park was the fact that it came about after being 0-2 down by half time thanks to the home side scoring twice in a few minutes before the interval.

Max Power scored Tranmere's first with a stunner, curling into the corner of the net from around 20 yards on 38 minutes. When Kayode Odejayi headed home from a corner in the 44th minute to double their lead it looked a bit bleak although it has to be said there was nothing between the sides in that first half-except they scored off their two chances.

Walsall eventually pulled one back through substitute Anthony Forde and when Michael Caine scored towards the end of the game we knew if we could hold out till the final whistle there were penalties to face. Our record in the shoot outs is not good at all but things worked out fine and we went through 5-4 to send the fans wild.
