Tips for safe Xmas driving

As Christmas approaches many families will be gearing up for long car journeys to stay with family and friends over the festive season.

Research shows that one in ten motorists will be travelling more than 100 miles to visit loved ones, with London, Manchester and Birmingham named as some of the most popular destinations although others venture into Europe & beyond for the festive season & New Year driving more miles.

Winter weather conditions can make roads hazardous and an A.S Mondeos are urging drivers to take extra care when setting off on journeys.

Chris Hill of A.S. Mondeos would like to point out punctures increase over the winter months when the roads are wet, as water and grime lubricate foreign objects, making it easier for them to penetrate the tyres.

He advises drivers to carry essential items such as a torch, blankets, water, de-icer, a first aid kit and a map in case of an accident or a breakdown.

Motorists should also make sure their mobile phones and their car batteries are fully charged before beginning a long trip and to take an in car mobile phone charger just in case your phone battery expires.

Chris also advises drivers taking their vehicle out of the UK over Christmas and the New Year to contact their car insurance provider to make sure they are covered for driving abroad & to arrange adequate breakdown cover.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP OF ALL IS DON`T DRINK & DRIVE THIS XMAS
