The sun's out, so it's time to dust off those sunglasses. Some of you may be considering buying a new pair but do you know what to look for when choosing?
For most of us the style is the first thing we consider however more importantly we should be looking at what type of sun protection is being offered.
The eyes are exposed to UV and just like any other part of your body, if they are not adequately protected, problems can arise such as cataracts or more seriously melanoma (cancer) of the eye. Just because the lenses are tinted dark does not mean that they offer full UV protection.
So here's what you need to look for. Firstly, a CE mark or British Standards mark. Secondly, a UV400 label donates UV protection is sufficient or a statement that the sunglasses offer 100% UV protection. And don't forget the bigger the better. So look for styles with bigger sides and a more wrap around design to stop that sun sneaking in!
At Park Hall Opticians, we offer a wide selection of sunglasses made to the highest standards. They can be made with your prescription in single vision, bifocal or varifocal lenses.
