Poets, Prattlers, and Pandemonialists are delighted to announce that we’ve been commissioned by Creative Black Country to run a series of online poetry activities across our region. At a time when regular poetry events are no longer running, ‘Stay Up Your Own End’ will provide ideas for how people might create their own work about some aspect of life in their area, and a platform for poets of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to share their work.

The first poetry prompt will go live on Monday 25th May and will focus on the Walsall area. Completed poems should be submitted to us at poetsprattlerspandemonialists@gmail.com by midday on June 7th 2020, so that we can share them during our live Facebook event on the evening of June the 8th.

In total there will be six ‘Stay Up Your Own End’ events, all being held on Monday evenings on Facebook. We will be following on from the Walsall event with evenings centred on Dudley, Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Stourbridge, before culminating in a grand finale on 20th July.

Poetry prompts for each event will be shared two weeks in advance. At each event a ‘judge’s favourite’ will be chosen and will secure a £25 prize for the author, plus the opportunity to work with us on creating a video of their piece for our sixth and final event, which will feature the five winning poems as well as videos from each of our five judges.

Our prompt writers and judges will be local favourites of the Black Country poetry scene Richard Archer, Rick Sanders, Roy McFarlane, Kuli Kohli, and Heather Wastie.

Steve Pottinger from Poets, Prattlers and Pandemonialists said, “Everyone – whether or not they consider themselves a poet – is welcome to join in by submitting work, or coming along to our Facebook page to read what local people have to say about life in their part of the Black Country.”

All events will be hosted on our Facebook page, which you will find here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1293834050753852/
