A Long Service Awards event took place at The Willows in Willenhall (Tuesday 2 June) recognising those from both The Royal Wolverhampton (RWT) and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trusts.
More than 200 staff were in attendance having achieved milestones of 25, 30, 40 or 50 years in the health service.
Dr Claire Radley, Chief People, Culture and Improvement Officer, said: “This is my first awards event while in post and it’s a pleasure to be leading you through the celebrations.
“I’m grateful to you all for your ongoing commitment and enthusiasm, and I look forward to hearing more of your wonderful stories.”
Guests were taken back through time with nostalgic music and facts, before being presented with a certificate by Sir David Nicholson, Group Chair and Joe Chadwick-Bell, Group Chief Executive.
Joe said: “Our vision is to deliver exceptional care, and we wouldn’t be able to do that without you.
“Please use today to realise what you are proud of, because the Board and I are certainly very proud of you all.”
Tarsem Dheensa, Clinical Nurse Specialist, for Dermatology at RWT, received applause from colleagues in recognition of her 50 years’ service.
She said: “It has been a privilege to work in such a great organisation, alongside wonderful people.
“I have always had a passion for Nursing, and this has been the icing on top of the cake for my career. It’s nice to feel recognised.”
The Nurse is now looking forward to retirement where she’ll be able to spend more time with her grandchildren.
Denise Fraser, Emergency Nurse Practitioner at Walsall, was celebrating 40 years.
Back in 1985 she joined Walsall General Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) and since has committed her career to the delivery of high-quality urgent care and treatment. Today she mostly works in Walsall Manor Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit – having retired and returned.
“I just love what I do,” she said. “When I think back, I remember my colleagues with fondness. I’ve really enjoyed my career, and the event today.”
Attendees were also treated to afternoon tea plus a musical performance from The RWT Singers.
