Speed Limit Reduction to 30mph on Wolverhampton Road

Walsall Council intends to formally introduce the new 30mph speed limit along A454 Wolverhampton Road by the 21st October.

Following the introduction they hope to undertake education days where the police and a member of their road safety team will stop vehicles travelling in excess of the speed limit and explain the reasons why speeding is dangerous and try to encourage motorists to monitor their speed more carefully. Following this further enforcement action will be undertaken by the police targeting speeding motorists. Additionally to the gateway signs they will be erecting a 30 mph repeater sign with a safety camera symbol to help remind motorists of the speed limit.

Black Country Route Safety Improvements – Phase 2

Along the Black Country Route inbound to Walsall the Council are nearing completion of phase 2 of the Local Safety Scheme which involves removing the nearside lane across the over bridge to improve road safety for traffic leaving and joining the route. This is similar to the outbound section which was successfully introduced some 12 months ago. It is hoped that this work will be completed by 19th October 2011. The scheme has been shortlisted for a national Highways Magazine award in the Road Safety Scheme of the Year category.
